WHO ARE WE? The decision to form this Association was taken by a group of 18 wood turning hobbyists who attended the inaugural meeting at Eneabba, in August 1985. A committee was elected and given the responsibility of organising meetings so as to achieve the accepted objective. The Association has gone from strength to strength, it is now a non-profit body incorporated under statute and has a membership in the order of 750 turners. The Association has conducted workshops in 30 metropolitan and country centres and as a result there are now 6 metropolitan and 6 groups established in the country, all conducting their own monthly programs. As a community based organisation, the Association and the groups accede to many requests for demonstrations at Shows, Fairs and Fetes, of members working at their craft the requests are so numerous that not all can be fulfilled. While the information of the Association has led to the growth of the number of turners, there is ample evidence of the quality of wood products having improved, as many Members have successfully, exhibited at National level. WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER JOINING? There is an opportunity for you to attend the monthly 2 day workshops designed to provide interesting and practical demonstrations for all levels of turners and assist in their skill development. Partners are welcome. An invitation is open for you to to attend any of the Group meetings conducted regularly by Groups of the Association in the metropolitan and country centres. For a reasonable fee you are also able to attend special workshops, promoted by the Association, and featuring well known Australian and overseas turners. A bi-monthly Newsletter is published advising of future programs, competitions, tips and other matters of interest. You will enjoy personal accident insurance cover for attendance at Association workshops, group meetings and other functions promoted by the Association. For those whose work is of an acceptable standard, there is ample opportunity to participate in exhibitions, demonstrations and similar displays. |
